She was a musician artist, designer and singer who broke through barriers in the industry. She was the first Mexican American singer that was modern and traditional. She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music to the forefront. Her tragic death cut a hole in her growing popularity and, as often happens when a glowing, charming star dies far too young has left many mourning all the untapped potential. To prevent her successes from going unnoticed many of her fans in these past few times have been motivated to do even more. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response in the Latino community that can be compared to the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena is a hugely popular Latino artist throughout North America, Selena's music has touched the lives of many across different cultures. Selena was an asexual and flamboyant stage performer who was sometimes called the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigning.
