Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, also known professionally under the other name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the first female artist to be signed for J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. She released her first EP for the label on Oct. 21 2016 titled Pho where she gained fame. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album was released May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music on the internet in 2012 as she launched her debut mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. The singer continued uploading her songs online throughout 2014, which included the self-released single Bound. In July of 2015, she was featured on Omen's album Elephant Eyes with the track Sweat it Out. J. Cole was interested in her talents and was keen to work with Rihanna. It was announced on December 8, she signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat was a track she recorded with Cozz on the album collaboratively titled Revenge of the Dreamers II. On the 21st of October in 2016, the EP Pho debuted. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change track and also opened her own tour, the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. The year 2018 saw Ari Lennox appeared on two tracks featuring EarthGang and EarthGang, on Nothing but the Best, as well as Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox dropped her first song Whipped Cream on Shea Butter Baby on July 16th. The music video was released, followed by a music video September. Then on November 9, she released two additional singles, forty Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. Then on the 13th of November two singles, titled The No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released as her first single on February 26, 2019 for the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby performed alongside Cole as part of her Creed II sound track on November 16. The song, released with a video uploaded to YouTube on February 20, 2019, was watched more than three million times over the first 7 days. As a supporting act She toured in concert with 6LACK during December 2018 on The From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
